Last time Meredith stood upon this shoreline, a chance in a lifetime had happened to her. She’d met Russell, a man unlike any other she’d ever imagined or seen. He was a masculine presence that robbed her of thoughts and stole her breath with the impact of his clumsiness. She recalled how he’d plowed into her, not paying attention as he ran on the beach and right smack into her. Then, they’d spent the entire day together. A year had passed. What would happen if she’d had the chance to see him again. She was about to find out.

Glancing down at his watch, he said, “It’s that time. Sun’s gone down and the cool air is kicking in. Definitely time to enjoy something to eat and drink.” He moved to open her trunk for her so she could put away her beach essentials. “Do you mind if I join you?”

“I’d love that,” Meredith told him, her body warming at spending time with him.

“Would it be alright if we left my truck here, so we could go together, or would you pref—”

“No,” she said, before he could finish. “We can come back for your truck.” 

The memory of making love on the beach had heat pooling between her legs. Was her subconscious hoping for a repeat of last years sexual encounter? What if he wasn’t interested in sex with her again?
